  NKC Consultations on More Talented Students in Maths and Science
  The following are the Members of the Working Group:

  7. Prof. S.C. Lakhotia

Terms of Reference:
  1. Recommend reforms in current pedagogy and curriculum to retain student interest in science.
  2. Detail plan to train and motivate science teachers on a large scale.
  3. Recommend changes in current system of evaluation to encourage creative thinking.
  4. Examine career opportunities in emerging fields where higher education in maths and science finds application. Recommend changes to develop these opportunities and lay foundations of exciting careers for pure science students.
  5. Revisit the issue of competition from professional fields and suggest ways and means to re-establish sciences as the first career choice for academically brilliant students.
  6. Suggest collaborative funding mechanisms to modernize infrastructure and build world class centres of learning.
  7. Examine any other issues that may be relevant in this context such as factors that define the willingness of students to pursue careers in pure maths and sciences.
  8. Suggest the priority of implementation of all recommendations in order of their importance and interconnectivities.
